We love making lace.  We want you to love making lace.
We aim to run two sesssions a month allowing you to choose how much time you can put aside for lacemaking.

Cost? We try to keep the cost as affordable as possible based on how much the venue charges.

​Never made lace before?  No problem.  We supply everything you need for your lesson and have a stash of second-hand equipment that we have gathered to help you start off affordably.

Made lace before?  Then take time to browse our library for inspiration, talk with other experienced lacemakers and access help if you need it.

Private Tuition

We offer one-to-one or small group tuition by arrangement.

f you prefer to learn at your own pace or have a particular pattern or technique in mind, we’d be happy to work around your needs.

​We provide illustrated talks and hands-on taster sessions tailored for all ages, with historical context and plenty of chances to have a go.

From basics to advance, Liz offers tuition on many different style of lacemaking.  From the English laces of Bedfordshire, Bucks Point and Honiton through the continental laces of Bruges, Torchon, Cluny and Withof, if it's made of lace, Liz will help you lean it.

Lesson One

In your first lesson you will learn to make a snake bookmark designed by the wonderful Christine Springette

How long does it take to make this?
​This bookmark takes 6-8 hours to complete.  You can do this in one session or if you feel more comfortable, over two sessions

What will I learn?
This lesson teaches the following:

• What the basic equipment is
• How to wind your bobbins
• Cloth stitch (one of the two stitches used in lacemaking)
• How to make sewings (adding eyes to your snake)
• Tension when lacemaking

Do I need to bring any equipment for this lesson?
If you have any lace equipment, then you are welcome to bring it with you, however we provide everything even down to the pins and scissors.

You just need to bring yourself and a packed lunch.  Depending on the venue we even provide the teas and coffess.

Lesson Two

In your second lession yhou will learn to make a simple bracelet.

How long does it take to make this?
​This bracelet takes 6-8 hours to complete.  You can do this in one session or if you feel more comfortable, over two sessions

What will I learn?
This lesson teaches the following:

• Recap bobbin winding and basic cloth stich
• How to make a solid edge (footside) in your lace to stop it from being too floopy.

Do I need to bring any equipment for this lesson?
If you have any lace equipment, then you are welcome to bring it with you, however we provide everything even down to the pins and scissors.

You just need to bring yourself and a packed lunch.  Depending on the venue we even provide the teas and coffess.

Lesson Three

In your third lesson ou will learn to make a Christmas decoration designed by the wonderful Christine Springett.

These lovely little two sided docorations make a wonderful personalise card to send to friends and family.

How long does it take to make this?
​This small decoration takes approximately 8 hours to complete.  You can do this in one session or if you feel more comfortable, over two sessions

What will I learn?
This lesson teaches the following:

• Half stitch (the only other stitch in lacemaking - all patterns are created from whole/cloth or half stitch
• Fans (that's the squiggly blue bits on the picture
• Torchon ground (this is the net like effect in light blue from using half stitch)

Do I need to bring any equipment for this lesson?
If you have any lace equipment, then you are welcome to bring it with you, however we provide everything even down to the pins and scissors.

You just need to bring yourself and a packed lunch.  Depending on the venue we even provide the teas and coffess.

Lesson Four

Time to choose your next piece.

You can look through our books and patterns for inspiration or bring your own.

We will take the time to help you decide on what techniques you will need and if there are any intermediate pieces you might want to try in order to gain the skills to make your chosn piece.
